In
the heart of the tufaceous region of Italy, artisans and craftsmen extract, cut
and sculpt tufo in a tradition dating back before the Romans to more than 3000
years ago to the time of the Etruscans, the first civilization to transform tufo
into a building material. The creative inspiration of these craftsmen, shape
the tufo into garden fountains, vases, flower boxes, benches and more. In
addition, the tufo is cut into a wide variety of block dimensions for wall,
path. patio and even whole building construction.
Tufo
is a lightweight, 100% natural cut stone that is certified to 500 pounds per
square inch for structural applications. It is easily cut and shaped making
installation simple without special tools or equipment. Tufo, being volcanic in
nature, is a natural refractory that dissipates heat generated by the sun’s
infrared rays making patios and pathways cool and comfortable to walk on
barefooted even on the hottest summer days. It is durable in all climates and
is laboratory tested and manufacturer certified for use in cold climates where
frequent freezing and thawing cycles occur.
Tufo
has the unmatched look of ancient stone and is more durable than today’s modern
stone products. As tufo ages the stone takes on a “patina” making the stone
look centuries old in a matter of a few years. Tufo brings a truly classic,
old-world look to any landscape or interior space. There are literally hundreds
of shapes and sizes of blocks and structures to suit any application.
